Table of Contents

UVM ZBT RULES

What you Need:

  • 26 cups (2 triangles of 6 cups on each side, 2 wash cups)
  • 2 Beer pong balls
  • A lot of beer
  • table: appr. 3'x6'

Rules of engagement (shots are thrown by hand, can be either bounce or air)

  • First throw is tossed by challenging/losing team (team B)
    • If Beer pong ball goes in, other team (team A) has chance to match.
    • If team A matches, both teams drink cup fast as possible and attempt to make shot before other team. NOW its open table.
  • If team A makes cup, team B must give Beer pong ball back as fast as possible, while drinking the made cup as fast as possible. Team A has option of throwing Beer pong ball before team B is finished drinking or wait for team B to finish drinking.
  • While team B is drinking: 2 scenarios
    • Team A makes shot- get both Beer pong balls back.
    • Team A misses shot- get one Beer pong ball back.
  • Throughout duration of game, missed shots are open Beer pong balls: meaning-PLAYERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO WRESTLE/FIGHT FOR BEER PONG BALL until Beer pong ball is in possession of either team.
  • Once either team's cups are reduced to a total amount of 6 cups, cups are then put together in one pyramid.
  • Knocked over cups are count as made cups, but team does not get Beer pong ball back.
  • Last shot, once the final cup is made, there is a redemption shot,: losing team is aloud to shoot Beer pong ball until they miss, only one player can take this shot. If each team has only one cup left, game goes into match mode, meaning once a Beer pong ball is made, the other team has to match it, this goes on until shot is missed.
  • Losing team drinks winning teams beer.
  • Play Ball!

Flagship Beirut

was wondering if I could contribute a different way of playing to your website. It involves 10 - 12 or 16 ounce cups on each side. You throw a quarter instead of a Beer pong ball and the front cup is always full. You start off with 4 beers. If someone hits the front cup then you put another cup in front and fill it up. This is how we play at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY.

Bounce PongBeer Pong Variation

2 players on each side...10 cups about half way filled up with beer on each side. Object is to bounce the beer pong balls into one of the cups but you must be behind your set of cups, each player rotates, you must stand behind your cups and you must release the Beer Pong Balls behind the table, if the Beer Pong Balls lands in a cup then 1 of the other players form the team must drink it (the 2 rotate). Once 1 teams cup are all gone then that team loses, so the point is to make the Beer Pong Balls into your opposing players cups and knock all the cups out, once a Beer Pong Balls is bounced in a cup the cup is removed, each team has 1 chance to rearrange the cups they are trying to bounce into.

Lawrenceville Beer Pong

What you need:

  • 2 Beer Pong Balls
  • 8 foot table complete with 10 holes drilled in it to fit cups so that they are about a quarter of an inch from the table.
  • 20 16 oz cups

Rules:

  1. 2 Teams of 2 players
  2. Each team starts with a Beer pong ball and you count to three and shoot, from there it is free for all until one Beer pong ball is sunk, then the cup is pulled and then sinking team gets both Beer pong balls.
  3. You then continue to shoot 2 Beer pong balls a team, but if you sink 2 shots you get both Beer pong balls back as a bonus.
  4. Rearrange the formation at 6 and 3 cups remaining.
  5. Last cup rules, if 2 Beer pong balls are sunk in the last cup on one turn the game is over. If they sink one on the first shot the other team gets one chance and 2 if they hit one Beer pong ball on the second shot.
  6. Overtime consists of 3 cups with same rules applying.
  7. Water cups are optional, but not required.

Sammy @ Hofstra StyleBeer Pong Variation

What you need:

  • 14 cups
  • 2 Beer Pong balls
  • A lot of Brew
  • Your drinking hat
  • A loud mouth

How we do it:

6 cups per side, set up in a triangle-filled evenly with 3 beers. 2 wash cups. Winning team starts with the Beer pong balls. If both shots are made-the Beer pong ball come back to them. If a shot goes in a cup but is rolling around the inside of the cup you can try to blow it out, and as long as it doesn't touch the beer, it doesn't count as a hit. Once a team hits the final shot, the opposing team has the option of shooting ONLY as many Beer pong balls as it took to win the game (If the winning shot was hit by player 1 on team A, they only get 1 shot, and if it was hit by player 2 they get 2 shots).

Important: TALK AS MUCH SHIT AS YOU CAN!!!

Connecticut "The Wood" StyleBeer Pong Variation

 What you need:

  • 10 cups arranged like bowling pins facing each other at opposite ends of a table, filled with COLD beer
  • 2 cups filled with COLD water, 1 on each half of the table
  • Teams of 2
  • Two Beer pong balls

Rules:

  • Challenging team takes first shots; after all, the winning team has to be confident enough that they can beat anyone faster than they can be beaten
  • If a shot is made, opposing team drinks that cup
  • When one team has made all ten cups, the opposing team must drink the remaining cups on the winning side
  • If both shots are made, the Beer pong balls come back
  • Bounce shots are worth two cups, however, a bounce shot can be swatted or caught
  • Only girls blow, guys don't
  • If a team swats a non-bounce shot, they must drink two of their own cups as a penalty
  • Overtime: Once a team has made all 10, the other team now enters sudden death. They must make all remaining shots on the table, consecutively. If they fail, the game is over and they must drink all cups remaining BEFORE the start of sudden death. If they succeed, the winning team must drink all cups except one, and then a 1 on 1 overtime occurs with the same rules as regulation.
  • No overtime rule: If a team makes 2 shots consecutively to end the game, no overtime is possible; game over. Same thing if 2 bounce shots are made in one turn to end the game, or if a bounce and a regular throw are made.
  • Winners stay, losers re-rack

Booboo PongBeer Pong Variation

submitted by Sean

I've got a game of pong for the real drinker. For this game you need 2 sets of ten cups on either side, this is for 2 people at the same time, 2 Beer pong balls. Lots of beer and also liquor, but not a lot and this is also optional when played with liquor it can get much more interesting. If you are going to play with liquor this is called the death cup and it goes at the head of the pyramid. You also need two wash cups.

You throw the Beer pong ball into the cup you drink you make both shots the Beer pong balls go back to the persons that made the shots and they may shoot again. However if the Beer pong ball is mistakenly shot into the wash cup(boo boo) then you have to drink all of the other players beer and your beer at once. the winner is the one that sinks all pong Beer pong balls in the opponents cups. This is a game for the true drinker at heart. Enjoy and be merry.

  • Ten 12 ounce cups per player
  • Four beers per player (2 beers per 5 cups)
  • One Beer pong Beer pong ball
  • Heavy metal or Jimmy Buffett music

Set up:

Every game has a different set up. We do not use the common triangle set up. We play a scattered cup game with both sides being exactly alike.

Rules:

  • Flip a multicolored paddle to decide who gets first throw.
  • Each team throws one after the other, using only one Beer pong ball.
  • Defense is not allowed (no blowing, swatting or anything of the like).
  • Once a cup has been hit, the player on the other team drinks the beer and replaces the empty cup at the exact place it was taken from.
  • If an empty cup is sunk or knocked over, the player throwing must drink one of his/hers (any cup on their side of the table).
  • The Beer pong ball is dead upon touching the table or the ground (you can not bounce a Beer pong ball in).

Cockeysville RulesBeer Pong Variation

  • You begin with ten cups and two Natural Lights on each side of the table.
  • Have three Beer pong balls, two whites and a multi-colored money Beer pong ball.
  • Shoot at opposite team's cups and try to hit.
  • If you hit a cup they must drink what is in the cup before they shoot. If you get two Beer pong balls in the same cup the other team must remove that cup and any three other cups of your choice. If you get three Beer pong balls in the same cup game over and the other team must chug all remaining drinks on the table.
  • If you hit three Beer pong balls but in different cups you are allowed the Beer pong balls back.
  • The team that has lost regulation gets three Beer pong balls to hit the remaining cups opposite their side of the table. For each Beer pong ball that went in during rebuttals they get that Beer pong ball back to try again. If team hits all remaining cups then the game goes to an overtime of six cup one beer.
  • Winning team stays on the table and begins the game with two of the three Beer pong balls.
  • Rapid fire is allowed.

Championship BeirutBeer Pong Variation

What you need:

  • 1 regulation Beer-pong table, or a table of approximate dimensions
  • 2 Beer-pong Beer pong balls
  • 20 12-oz party cups are to be used, 10 per side, filled in a way so that one beer fills five cups.
  • 2 water cups, one per side, filled with warm water. Balls should be placed in them preceding every shot.
  • 2 players to a side
  • 4 beers. Nattie Light is preferable. Dark beers, such as bass ale, are not. The truly hardcore have been known to play with grain punch, but don't expect to be on the table for long.

Rules:

  • The "challenging" team, the one not previously on the table or the lower-seeded in tournament play, opens with one player taking a shot. If it is sunk the cup is drank, but the Beer pong ball does not come back.
  • Each player on the other team then takes a shot. If both players hit, it is a "double-up" and the Beer pong balls come back. Players may yell "send 'em back" to remind the opposing team to send it back, or just to rub it in.
  • When six or three cups remain they are rearranged in a pyramid. This is called a "re-rack." The team must call for a re-rack to get one.
  • When one cup remains, it is centered and the back of the table. Again this must be called for by the team shooting at it.
  • When the final cup is hit, if the second player hasn't hit yet he can shoot and if he hits the other team is denied redemption. This is also the case if the last two cups are hit consecutively to end the game. If the second player misses, redemption is earned. The team plays the same way with each player taking a shot and both players must hit to get it back. If one player misses and more than one cup remains the game ends.
  • If the team is successful in redemption, over time occurs. The two final cups are replaced and the same rules apply as in regulation.
  • Once a Beer pong ball hits something (table, cup, wall, ceiling, etc.) the Beer pong ball can be grabbed or swatted by the defending team. however, if it goes in, it still counts.
  • Blowing is not allowed.
  • If a cup is knocked over by the Beer pong ball or the team controlling the cup, it is removed from the game.
  • If goaltending occurs, a cup is removed from the game and the tending player is shunned. If it is not clear whether the Beer pong ball was over the table and there is no impartial spectator to make a ruling, the Beer pong ball is re-thrown. Goaltending is allowed however, if the team fails to wash the Beer pong ball before shooting. The Beer pong ball is then washed and a do-over occurs.
  • The losing team drinks the winning team's beer. In the case of a shutout or if one player is unable to hit, that player/team must sit under the table in shame for the next game.
  • As the game approaches its end, whoever is next on the table fills the pitcher if there is a keg or gets cans of beer if that is all that's available.
  • While waving hands over cups is very gay, it is allowed. My experience, however, has shown it provides more incentive to hit to further embarrass the waving player. Yelling in mid-shot is also considered gay, but there are no rules preventing it as of now.
  • Get Drunk!

Stylz' Delaware PongBeer Pong Variation

These rules were handed down from the beer pong gods themselves and are as follows:

  • 12 Cups: 2 pyramids of 6
  • 2 Beer pong balls
  • 2 teams of 2

Players can shoot at any cup on the opposing side of the table

Starting the Game "The Eyes Shot"
Each team starts off with a Beer pong ball. One member of each team squares off against the member of the opposing team. The two players look at each other and on a three count the players shoot at the same time. Whoever makes it in the cup gets both Beer pong balls, and the cup that is made is taken off the table and consumed. If both players make the "Eyes Shot," the "Eyes shot" continues until 1 team makes it and 1 misses.

Playing

  • Each player on a team takes a shot, if the Beer pong ball goes in the opposing team MUST DRINK before they shoot
  • if both players make a cup they get both Beer pong balls back
  • NO BLOWING
  • bouncing is allowed: you may bounce the Beer pong ball in, however it must go in after one bounce, and if the Beer pong ball bounces passed the plain of the pyramid it can be grabbed
  • Consolidate at 6 cups, and ONLY 6 cups
  • The Beer pong ball is considered live until the opposing player has complete control over it

The Last Shot (hold on it gets complicated)

  • If there is 1 cup left on either side
    • If team 1 makes it on their first shot and misses on the second shot team 2 MUST make it on their first shot to send it into overtime. Team 2's second shot is only for not drinking.
    • If team 1 makes it on their second shot but not their first team 2 has two chances to send it into overtime. If team 2 makes both shots they get both Beer pong balls back in overtime.
    • If team 1 makes both shots the game is over
  • If there is more then 1 cup l left on a side when a team has hit their last shot each player gets a shot.
    • If they both make it they get the Beer pong balls back.
    • If they miss and a cup is still left on the table they lose.

Overtime

  • 3 cup pyramid overtime
  • unless a team hit two-in-a-row to send it into overtime each team receives a Beer pong ball and they shoot the "Eyes Shot"

Dakota StyleBeer Pong Variation

What you need:

  • 56 cups (yes, that's 56)
  • Beer pong table or equivalent

Rules:

This game is not for the weak of heart. It will get you drunk.

A seven-tiered pyramid is made on each side(28 cups per side) with one 12 ounce beer in each cup.

Each side consists of a team of four people. They take turns shooting at the other team's cups. When shot is made team drinks beer according to own rules.(Split between all members, or pairs of two, for example)

Shots may be thrown or bounced in. No paddles in this game.

Losing team must drink remaining beers of winning team. Losing team is the team with no cups remaining.

If a team shoots out of order, takes too long between shots or interferes with the other team's shot, a one cup penalty is assessed, with the choice of cup up to the opposing team.

If a team knocks over one of its own beers, that beer and another penalty beer are assessed with the penalty beer chosen by the opposing team.

If a team drops the ball in one of their own cups, that cup must be drank and the turn is forfeited.

Each team is allowed two time-outs for bathroom breaks per game of indeterminate length.

Each game takes 1-1.5 hours. Dedication is required. Drinking on the side is allowed, but can inhibit one's abilities.

additions from Jeff's brother: When playing Dakota style it is 4 on 4, a variation for a 5th or a bunch of hearty drinkers can be made by adding an 8th cup to the back row. We don't have water cups, we have zambonis (a roll of paper towels). Interfraternity/intersorority competitions are more than common on Thursday nights and female distractions are welcome.

Long Island StyleBeer Pong Variation

  1. Cups are arranged, 10 on a side, in pyramid formation, as shown.
  2.  Three beers per side, evenly distributed.
  3. Each team of two starts off with one Beer pong ball. Players throw the Beer pong ball across the court, trying to get the Beer pong ball in a cup. When a Beer pong ball lands in a cup, one player from that side must chug that cup, and it is removed from the play area (pushing it to the side is OK). When both players on a team sink a cup, they get the Beer pong ball back.
  4. Drinking is alternated. One player drinks the first cup, the other drinks the second, the first player drinks the third, and so on. Throwing can either be alternated or done two at a time. Some people think that throwing two at a time improves accuracy, but studies are inconclusive. It's up to you and your partner.
  5. As soon as the Beer pong ball touches anything, including a cup, it's fair game to be grabbed. If it bounces in, great, but you'd better hope your opponents have no reflexes. Bouncing it in counts for two cups.
  6. Cups are restacked into pyramids when 6 cups and 3 cups remain on a side.
  7. When 4 cups remain on a side, restack them in a diamond formation.
  8. When 2 cups remain, they are placed one in front of the other.
  9. When one cup remains, it is placed in the corner of the table.
  10. When the last cup on a side is hit, the losing team has the opportunity to match, getting one or two Beer pong balls to shoot depending on whether or not the winning team used both shots. If the losing team manages to clear all of the winning team's cups while matching, both teams resume the game with three cups and one beer per side.
  11. Any cups left on the side of the winning team must be consumed by the losing team.
  12. If a player, for any reason whatsoever, drops a Beer pong ball into a cup on his own side, he must drink it. Additionally, his teammate has the right to smack him on the head for being such a idiot. There can be no exceptions to this rule.
  13. If the Beer pong ball is still spinning in the cup, only girls can blow it out. If the Beer pong ball gets wet, though, then it is declared in the cup.
  14. Winning five games in a row qualifies you as a dynasty.

What you need:

  • 28 cups (26 for playing, 2 wash cups)
  • 2 Beer pong Beer pong balls
  • A lot of beer
  • 2 teams of 2 players each
  • You may need a sipper beer if your opponents aren't sinking any

Rules:

  • NO bounce. Straight throwing-it is all about the arch.
  • First shot-players decide who gets the first shot. One player from Team A shoots once. Team B gets the next two shots. The game proceeds with Teams A and B switching off every 2 shots.
  • If both players on a team make a shot in one team turn, the Beer pong balls are returned. This can go on indefinitely.
  • If a cup is spilled, or knocked over by the Beer pong ball, IT COUNTS. However, if it is the center cup, or last cup, it does not count and the cup must be re-filled all the way to the top. The team doesn't get the Beer pong ball back either.
  • The two wing pyramids can be brought together if:
    • There are only 6 cups or less on the table.
    • The center cup is made.
  • When a player makes the center cup, the cup is set aside until the opposing cup is made. When the second center cup is made, the players who made the shots, have a cheers and try to beat the opponent in finishing the beer.
  • Last shot:
    • Team A sinks one shot. Team B has redemption shots to try and make all their remaining cups on the table. Each player shoots until they miss.
    • Team A sinks both shots into the center cup. Team B has no redemption.
  • The losers must drink all the remaining beer on the table before the next game.
  • Throughout the game each player is allowed one guest shot by an outside spectator. These do not have to be used.
  • TALK SHIT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN (but don't dish out what you can't take).

CCBLS RulesBeer Pong Variation

submitted by Damien the Great

Notes:

this version was created by J-Pac and DTG, two drunken math majors to make for the most skill oriented, fast and fun game
played on an 8' by 4' sheet of plywood
we don't actually only play with beer, any alcohol you want is legal, rum, mixed drinks, whatever

Rules:

  • Cups are to be filled to the first line on standard keg cups, this is about four ounces
  • There is no leaning over the table at any time, if the Beer pong ball hits you before reaching the end of the table, it counts as going in
  • No crossing the line of the table when throwing, this is called leaning
  • No bouncing off the table or floor(mathematically harder)
  • Bouncing off anything else is legal (walls, people, ceiling, bottles, etc.)
  • If it does bounce off something, a cup, an extraneous can or bottle, etc. the other team may swat it away or grab it, but if it goes in before hitting the table or floor, it counts
  • If the Beer pong ball goes in any other cup on your end of the table you must drink that cup, you may move any non-in-play cup the Beer pong ball is going towards though
  • If the Beer pong ball goes in the cup you must chug that cup before shooting, no sip-Beer
  • Six cups, standard triangle shape on each side to start, with water cup on side
  • You never have to drink the water cup, ever, if you play, you'll know why, that shit is nasty
  • If you knock over a cup, you must refill it and drink it and it counts as being hit, this is alcohol abuse and must be punished
  • The team who owns the table starts the night with the Beer pong balls first, if they are on opposite teams a throw off occurs, after the first game the winning team throws first
  • Throw offs: stare at the opposing player count to three and throw without looking at the cups, whoever gets it in wins, this goes on until only one person gets it in
  • Alternate which team shoots
  • If both members of a team make it, they get the Beer pong balls back
  • Rearrange into a diamond after two cups are hit, a triangle after three, a line long ways on the table after four
  • Redemption: the team with their cups cleaned off shoot however many Beer pong balls are at their end after their last cup is hit (unless the winning team hit the last two cups in one turn, in which case there is no redemption) if they make every Beer pong ball (one or two) they keep shooting until they miss until they miss (if two Beer pong balls are still in play they get to shoot the other Beer pong ball if they haven't yet that time) or they remove all the cups, if the latter happens, the game goes to three cups per side and starts over with the team who initially won throwing first, same redemption and overtime rules apply
  • Distractions are allowed and encouraged, but all people must stay at their own end of the table when distracting
  • There is no talking about serious shit at the beer pong table
  • Any arguments over rules are settled by the owners of the table, if this does not settle the dispute, it is settled like men, rock scissors paper
  • If someone passes out, their team loses and the remaining person must drink all the beer (use pro wrestling style three time hand drop to determine consciousness)
  • The losing team drinks the winners beer
  • Teams are of two people only, no substituting
  • Only girls may blow into the cup if the Beer pong ball is swirling, if it hits beer before it comes out, it counts though
  • "Laser shots" which hit the side of the cup and knock it over are illegal, the shot counts as having not gone in, the cup is refilled and the offender must drink one of his own cups
  • "Laser shots" which go in the cup but knock it over are legal, but not encouraged, if the Beer pong ball is inside the cup as it goes over, it counts
  • If you are drunk enough to hit your own cups, it counts, you drink and the other team gets the Beer pong ball
  • each teammate shoots once per round, no double shooting for the better player
  • If a player uses the restroom, they are to be ridiculed for no less than three rounds for being weak, if they are the first person to break the seal, this harassing should continue for the entire night
  • You must wash the Beer pong ball off before each shot
  • If the Beer pong ball becomes balanced on the cups as the result of a shot before hitting the table or floor, it is an automatic win (I know of only one time this has been done)
  • If the Beer pong ball goes into an ash tray at any time it must be washed in the sink
  • Winners stay on the table, losers fill the cups for the next game
  • Winners should also be allowed to pick music, unless they like shit
  • Trash talk is half the game, and if you play the Buckfutters or Psycho Thugs, it will be backed up

Items:

  • 24-plastic dixie cups
  • 2 Beer pong balls
  • 4-8 beers

Rules:

  • 2 players on a team.
  • 6 cups are set in a triangle in front of each player
  • fill with 1 or 2 beers per 6 cups(we don't use a ton of beer each game so we can play all night and a lot of girls that play complain.
  • flip a beer cap heads or tails to see who goes first or we do a throw off to see who makes the first shot.
  • cups made on throw off don't count.
  • the starting team, each player throws a Beer pong ball.
  • if both players make shots then they get sent back.
  • you may throw or bounce to make the cups. no bounce count is present.

the exciting part is the HEAD CUP RULE!!!
-the head cup is as follows:

  • if a player on team A makes the Beer pong ball into player on team B's head cup(which is the front cup) then before team B is allowed to drink that cup, the other player on team A tries to make their Beer pong ball in either the same head cup or the other head cup. if this happens then the game is over and then team B has to drink every beer on the table. this rule is in effect the whole game but you lose an advantage if you had already hit the other head cup earlier.
  • now, the cups don't get restacked or any of that crap. its all about accuracy.
  • when you get the other team down to 6 cups total, then they must combine the cups and put them in between each other in the back middle of the table.
  • the HEAD CUP RULE IS ALSO IN EFFECT WHEN THERE ARE ONLY 6 CUPS LEFT.
  • the team that hits all the other teams cups wins and the loser must finish the winners beer.
  • our version we use is all about accuracy in trying to hit the head cups and win a quick game.

those are the rules that us boys and girls on Edgewood Drive use to play beer pong. Go EKU!!! Club Edgewood!!!

Delta Chi StyleBeer Pong Variation

What you need:

  • 14 20 oz dixie cups - this includes 2 for hot water
  • 2 Beer pong Beer pong balls
  • 2 players on each side (or 1 rules stay the same)
  • 4 Natty Lights (or Natural Light - but we don't say those words) - 2 to each side spread among the 6 cups.
  • Hand Made Beirut Table 8x4

Rules:

  1. First shot of the game is played one Beer pong ball on each side shot at the same time looking the opposing player eye to eye. if one team hits they get both Beer pong balls. if both or neither hit the new team on the table shoots their Beer pong ball back. if first game of night continue with eye to eye until only one team hits.
  2. When a cup is hit you must pull that cup and drink before shooting again. Cups are not rearranged after the shot.
  3. Hitting with both Beer pong balls does not warrant getting them back but if you hit both Beer pong balls in the same cup you win and losers must drink table.
  4. No blowouts, no bounces, Beer pong ball is always in play but can be swiped at or grabbed after it touches anything. if shot is grabbed before it touches something Beer pong ball is given back and shot is redone.
  5. When one team sinks the final cup, other team has a chance to tie. number of Beer pong balls depends on how many are on your side. If winning team sunk final cup on first shot of their turn you get one shot to tie, if second shot you get two. if game is tied OT consists of one beer, three cups, in a pyramid. first shot is eye to eye and rules repeat as in rule one.
  6. Any shot that misses the entire table causes the team to shoot to drink one cup.
  7. If a cup is not over (besides screaming about wasting beer) if cup falls off table it is out of play same as if sunk, if it stays on the table it is filled again and put back in its place.
  8. Game is over when last cup is hit and losers cannot tie. beer left over from winners is recycled (hey we are all poor college kids)
  9. If game ends and losers don't hit a single cup they must strip naked and run around the building in birthday suits.

** Variation to get more drunk** - Same players use two pyramids of six on each side (one on each corner) double the beers. all rules are the same except rearrange to make a single pyramid in the middle when 6 cups are left on a side. We play this tournament style and will be your demise.

Maryland Private School RulesBeer Pong Variation

Here is how we play in the Maryland private schools, and what I feel to be the best set of rules around:

  1. 10 cups are arranged into a pyramid on each side of the table. Each team of two evenly distributes two beers into their cups.
  2. We play rapid fire (which makes for fast paced games). This means the winning team from the previous game or the house owner starts with two of the three Beer pong balls. The other team starts with one. The team with one Beer pong ball shoots first, we don't use paddles, because one comes before two.
  3. There is no turn taking here. If you miss, the Beer pong ball is open to whoever gets the Beer pong ball first. This is also known as full contact. You can shoot anytime you get a Beer pong ball, but it must always be washed off in the water cup.
  4. There are never any reformations, you have to be good enough to make any cup to play with us.
  5. Blow outs are not allowed, unless you are a girl.... Only chicks can blow.
  6. If one team makes three cups in a row, without the other team shooting, they get all Beer pong balls back.
  7. If at anytime a team sinks two Beer pong balls in the same cup, a gang-bang, the game is over.
  8. When one team wins, the losing team gets their rebuttals. You get three misses, make it take it. If the losing team is unsuccessful in making all rebuttal cups, each member of the team receives a water cup shot. If they make the water cup, they have won the chance to shoot at the beer cups again, make it take it, with only one miss allowed. If they are still unsuccessful, the game is over, and the losing team must provide the beer for the winning team's next game.

Triangle Beer PongBeer Pong Variation

Use 15 cups on each side, aligned in rows...5 in the back, 4 right in front, 3 in front of that, then 2, then one... All cups must be touching, so it forms a triangle. Each cup is filled about halfway with beer. There is a team of two on each side of the table and no paddles are used. Instead, one team starts the game by each person tossing a Beer pong ball and trying to get it into one of the cups. If you get the Beer pong ball into one of the opposing teams cups, one member of the opposing team drinks the beer in that cup, team members alternate who drinks the beer every time the other team gets a Beer pong ball in their cup. Once the beer is drunk from that cup, the cup is placed aside and out of the triangle. Once the team has taken their two shots at the cups, the other team shoots back, and it goes on like that. The point of the game is to eliminate all of the other teams cups. The shot must be direct, and cannot bounce off the table and then go into the cup. Also, if both members of a team make their shots consecutively, the 2 Beer pong balls are returned to that team and they get another chance.

Here at Illinois Wesleyan University, the Acacia Fraternity plays Beer Pong a little differently than most others. We set up the table like this:

100 Cup BeirutBeer Pong Variation

Well I have a variation that we play here at Susquehanna University(a small lib. arts school in central PA). Everyone calls it 100 cup Beirut but really it's 105 cups on each side of the table. Teams of four each with a case or 30 pack. Fill all the cups evenly if playing with 24 or evenly except the middle row which gets filled fully when playing with a 30 pack. Most of the tables here are 4x8 sheets of painted plywood. The triangles are centered with the back row of cups 3/4 of an inch from the back of the table and the cup rims touching. Play starts with a member from each team having a Beer pong Beer pong ball and tossing it on the count of three simultaneously. Whomever hits a cup first their team gets the first round of throws. The loser removes and drinks the hit cup. A full round is when each of the 4 players on the team has a throw. (4 Beer pong balls are needed) Play continues in full rounds. If all 4 hit cups there is a rollback. No bounce. No racking till 20 cups remain, then it splits into 2 racks of 10. After 10 are left there is a rack of 10 which is constantly racked. Double-cup Beer does not apply and redemption would be in the game if that ever happened which it hasn't through time. Game time = one hour to one and a half.

The Beer Bone/Beer Yard variation

(Sinking Spring Hardcore rules)

This variation can be added to any of the other standard forms of beerpong.

Additional Equipment:

  • 1 or 2 beer bones/beer yards (2 if you are hardcore)

Rules:

  • This version must be played on a Beer pong table or a table in which you can get a really good bounce.
  • You set the game up like you would for the version of your choice. Then put the beerbone full of beer in the middle of the table (If you're using 2 bones put them on each side of the middle).
  • The bone is neutral which means any team can throw at them.
  • The only way a score on the beerbone counts is if the Beer pong ball is bounced in (it's too close to toss them in).
  • The thrower is only allowed one bounce then the other team can stop the Beer pong ball (only after the second bounce).
  • When the Beer pong ball lands in the bone, the other team must drink the bone before their next throw.
  • You do not have to sink a bone to win.
  • If you're really hardcore, after the bone has been hit and drank, you may refill and put it back on the table (usually this phase of drinking doesn't start until later).

Beer Bone Strategy:

  • If you're getting beat bad, aim for the bone. At least make the winning team pay.
  • If you winning big, aim for the bone you have some shots to waist make the losing team pay.
  • In a close game don't aim for the bone, remember if you win you stay on the table and get more drunk. If they hit the bone and you win you drink more anyway and that's what you wanted.
  • If you play with 2 bones or refill after a hit and the other team already scored a hit, aim for the bone. Show those MFers what it felt like.

University of Virginia RulesBeer Pong Variation

OK, this is quite different than the West Coast rules. Here on the East Coast we play like this:

  • 6 Red or Blue "Party Cups". Fill the beer up to the first rim on the cup (about 1/3 full). This equals 2 full beers per team. We arrange them in a pyramid (a paddle off the back of the table), 3 cups in the back, 2 in the middle row, 1 in the front, all tightly pushed together. The cups are on either end of Beer pong table, or on 2 separate tables about 15 feet apart if you don't have a Beer pong table.
  • Water Cup. There is a cup of warm water to dip the Beer pong ball in, in the event that the Beer pong ball picks up something unpleasant off of the floor.
  • Singles or Doubles (same rules, if you're playing doubles, partners rotate shots and drinks)
  • Lobs only
  • Bounces off of anything count. As soon as the Beer pong ball hits something, you can smack it away so it won't bounce in.
  • Drinks occur right after the shot is made. You can't shoot back until your drink is drunk.
  • Rebuttals - After the last cup is made, the team behind gets 2 shots (one per partner) to try and rebut.
  • Money Beer pong ball.- This one is definitely different. We play with 2 Beer pong balls. One is white, one is yellow. One partner shoots the white Beer pong ball, the other shoots the yellow Beer pong ball. If you make the yellow Beer pong ball, you get it right back and retain your turn. You keep getting it back as long as you make it. Teams decide which player wants to throw their money Beer pong ball. You can rotate back and forth between throwing the white Beer pong ball or the money Beer pong ball. Whoever is on a roll typically should throw the money Beer pong ball.
  • Blowing.- If the Beer pong ball is spinning around the cup and not yet touching the beer, female players can attempt to blow it out of the cup. Male players can not blow the Beer pong ball out of the cup in the event it is spinning.
  • Streaking.- If one team didn't make a shot the entire game, first they finish the other teams' beers. Then they proceed to take off their clothes and streak 1 time around the house/apartment.

These are the University of Virginia rules, where we take our beer pong seriously. A lot of frats/apartments have rooms dedicated to the game, and it is called "the pong room". The room is usually decorated with job rejection letters....etc. These rules are quite similar throughout most colleges in Virginia (I've seen the same at Virginia Tech and James Madison, and in Washington DC. The money Beer pong ball is a UVA rule...haven't seen that one anywhere else.

Bethany Beach Rules

Exact same as University of Virginia rules with one crucial addition:

The Pool of Death.

In the middle of the table is placed a large bowl. Inside this bowl is poured one beer. Over the course of the night anyone walking by the table is encouraged to liberally contribute a portion of their beverage (whatever it may be) to the pool of death. Although unlikely, in the event of someone's Beer pong ball unfortunately landing in the pool of death, he/she must proceed immediately to bong the pool's contents. Then he/she must proceed to the bathroom, where everything consumed will inevitably and quickly be emptied into the toilet. Brilliant.

Extreme Beer PongBeer Pong Variation

What you need:

  • 26 Cups - 2 Sets of 6 on each side of the table, and two for washing.
  • 3 Beer pong Beer pong balls
  • 4 players

Rules

  • Each player is responsible for the 6 beers in front of him/her.
  • Re-racks occur after each and every made shot
    • 5 cups remaining - 2 cups in front of three
    • 4 diamond shape with middle two cups touching
    • 3 standard triangle
    • 2 one in front of the other
    • 1 when only one cup out of 12 remains, it goes in the middle of the side of the table
  • One team starts with two Beer pong balls, the other team starts with one.
  • Once a team has all three Beer pong balls, this is what occurs
    • Team A with all three Beer pong balls shoots the first Beer pong ball, if he/she makes one of the cups, the other team must drink it.
    • If while the opposing team member is still drinking the cup, and a player from the shooting team sinks another Beer pong ball, one Beer pong ball is given back.
    • If while both opposing players are drinking their cups, and Beer pong ball number three is shot and sunk, then all three Beer pong balls are given back. If one player is finished, and the other player is still drinking, and the cup is sunk, then two Beer pong balls are returned. The way to determine if cups are finished, is whether or not the cup is finished and put on the table. If the cup is not on the table, then the shot is considered good.
  • The most important rule in Extreme Beer Pong - If a player shoots, and the Beer pong ball bounces off of the table, or any object, or for any reason does not go in the cup, IT IS FULL CONTACT TO GET THE BEER PONG BALL*. So all the pro players, that catch it one bounce after a miss, are rewarded for their drunken hand eye coordination. Those amateurs out there, get penalized. (NOTE: MUST CARRY LARGE SURPLUS OF PONG BEER PONG BALLS FOR GAMES). Once a player has control of the Beer pong ball, the contact must end, unless of course you really don't like the person. Then do as you wish.

* Note - Players must stay at the end of the table and cannot line up beside it to get a running start. This is considered cheating and offenders should be beaten.

Losing team drinks extra beer, and REFILLS PITCHER FOR NEXT GAME. Winning team gets two pong Beer pong balls in beginning of next game.
